About the Project Accountant Opportunity

We’re partnering with a growing, operations-driven organization seeking a Project Accountant to support regional financial operations with a strong focus on project accounting, WIP billing, and month-end close. This role is ideal for a Project Accountant who enjoys digging into job costs, owning financial accuracy, and partnering closely with operations to ensure projects are billed, tracked, and reported correctly.

If you have hands-on experience with project-based accounting, WIP, and unit-based billing, and enjoy improving processes while maintaining high standards, this role offers both stability and growth.

What You’ll Be Responsible For as a Project Accountant

  • Ensure invoices are accurately tied to project data, accounting records, and internal financial analysis tools.

  • Partner with operations and customers to manage billing approvals, including initial job setup and ongoing change orders.

  • Maintain clean, audit-ready billing documentation aligned with contractual terms.

  • Provide backup support for accounts receivable and collections activities.

  • Monitor outstanding balances, follow up on aging items, and help resolve billing or payment disputes.

  • Own month-end close responsibilities for an assigned region or business area.

  • Prepare and reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

  • Record journal entries with proper support for accruals, adjustments, and allocations.

  • Track and analyze project and job costs, including projects spanning multiple months.

  • Manage WIP billing and production costing, including work performed by subcontractors and third-party vendors.

  • Ensure accounting activities comply with internal policies and GAAP standards.

  • Support leadership with ad hoc financial analysis, research, and special projects.

What We’re Looking For in Project Accountant Candidates:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.

  • 3+ years of accounting experience, ideally in project-based environments such as construction, telecom, or similar industries with WIP and job costing.

  • Strong understanding of GAAP, debits/credits, journal entries, and financial statements.

  • Hands-on experience with unit-based billing, job cost analysis, and WIP accounting.

  • Proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, lookups).

  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Clear and professional communication with both internal teams and external partners.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary with performance-based incentives.

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.

  • 401(k) with company match.

  • Paid time off and company holidays.

  • Ongoing professional development and career growth opportunities.
