Staff Accountant / HR Administrator

They are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Staff Accountant/HR Administrator to join their team and play a critical role in supporting both their financial operations and employee experience.
Responsibilities
Accounting & Finance

Record and manage all accounting transactions, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, investments, cash receipts, credit cards, journal entries, fixed assets, and depreciation

Manage tuition billing and collections; maintain billing records and assist families with registration and billing inquiries

Prepare monthly documentation for government subsidies and nonprofit receivables (e.g., DSS, CACFP, and other programs)

Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, investments, and general ledger accounts

Analyze aging reports and variances versus prior periods and budget

Reconcile fundraising campaigns and in-kind donations in partnership with Development leadership

Complete monthly close within three business days and review financial reports (Balance Sheet and P&L) with leadership

Support annual financial statement audit and collaborate with external CPA firm

Assist with cash flow forecasting and special projects as needed
Human Resources Administration

Administer employee benefits including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and 403(b) retirement plan

Process payroll and manage payroll-related tax and deduction matters

Support annual benefits renewal, disability and Paid Family Leave calculations, workers’ compensation audits, and unemployment claims

Assist employees with HR-related questions and leave administration (including maternity, disability, and PFL)
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required

4–6 years of general accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit environment

Strong knowledge of GAAP and accrual-based accounting

Experience with payroll, PTO accruals, billing, accounts payable/receivable, and cash flow management
-
Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop and Microsoft Office (advanced Excel skills required)

Experience with ADP payroll systems preferred
