Assistant Controller

Location: Hampton, Virginia (Relocation Required)
Salary Range: $110,000 – $135,000 annually (based on experience)

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and analytical Assistant Controller to join our manufacturing operations in Hampton, Virginia. This role requires relocation and offers a strong growth opportunity within a dynamic production environment. The ideal candidate will bring at least seven years of progressive accounting experience in manufacturing, with deep expertise in cost accounting, financial reporting, and full-cycle month-end close.

The Assistant Controller will partner closely with operations leadership to drive financial accuracy, cost control, and strategic decision-making.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Month-End Close

  • Lead and manage the full month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements

  • Oversee general ledger activity, account reconciliations, and journal entries

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies

Cost Accounting & Manufacturing Analysis

  • Manage standard costing, inventory valuation, and variance analysis

  • Analyze material, labor, and overhead costs to identify operational efficiencies

  • Partner with plant leadership to improve cost controls and margin performance

  • Monitor production metrics and provide financial insight into operational results

Financial Planning & Analysis

  • Prepare and analyze budgets, forecasts, and financial models

  • Conduct detailed financial analysis to support strategic business decisions

  • Provide variance analysis with actionable recommendations

  • Support capital expenditure planning and ROI analysis

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Strengthen and maintain internal controls within a manufacturing environment

  • Support external audits and ensure audit readiness

  • Assist in developing policies and procedures to improve financial processes

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff as needed

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, and executive leadership

  • Serve as a key financial partner to plant management


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)

  • Minimum 7+ years of progressive accounting experience within manufacturing (required)

  • Strong cost accounting and inventory management expertise

  • Proven ability to manage full-cycle month-end close independently

  • Advanced analytical and financial modeling skills

  • Strong understanding of GAAP

  • Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel skills

  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities


Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA or CMA designation (preferred but not required)

  • Experience in a multi-site or high-volume manufacturing environment
