Overview of the Customer Service Accountant

We are seeking a Customer Service Accountant to play a vital role in supporting daily financial and operational functions. The Customer Service Accountant will help manage customer service activities related to consumer utility and tax accounts, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and strong service delivery.

Responsibilities

The Customer Service Accountant will support the Finance Director and perform the following duties:

  • Manage and reconcile utility billing data, ensuring accuracy across subsidiary ledgers, databases, receivable reports, and general ledger uploads.
  • Serve as a liaison between Customer Service, IT, and Accounting to resolve software, programming, and integration issues within the utility billing system.
  • Provide financial analysis and reporting, including monthly and annual revenue reports, budget performance reports, and statistical data for leadership and regulatory agencies.
  • Support departmental functions such as budget preparation, payroll administration, and providing financial or procedural guidance to staff, vendors, and the public.
  • Lead and support operational projects, serving as the technical lead for Customer Service initiatives, enhancing workflow efficiency, managing delinquent accounts, and providing office backup as needed.

Qualifications for the Customer Service Accountant

The Customer Service Accountant should have:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance, accounting, or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional accounting experience; utility accounting experience is preferred.
  • Experience communicating with and providing customer service to a diverse community.
