Senior Accountant


About the Role:

Join the finance team at a mission-driven nonprofit organization where we've successfully placed multiple accounting and finance professionals.

What You'll Do:

  • Oversee monthly and year-end financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Review and prepare complex financial statements and management reports in compliance with GAAP
  • Lead account reconciliations for balance sheet accounts including cash, investments, and debt
  • Manage journal entry processes including complex accruals, deferrals, and reclassifications
  • Drive budget variance analysis and provide actionable insights to leadership
  • Coordinate audit activities and prepare comprehensive schedules for external auditors and tax preparers
  • Serve as key liaison during NetSuite implementation, including data mapping, testing, and training
  • Mentor junior accounting staff and review their work for accuracy
  • Streamline accounting processes and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements
  • Partner with department heads to address financial inquiries and support operational needs
  • Prepare grant reporting and restricted fund accounting as needed
  • Lead special projects and ad hoc financial analysis

What You Bring:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Solid command of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities
  • Strong leadership presence with mentoring or supervisory experience
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills

Preferred:

  • NetSuite or similar cloud-based ERP experience
  • Nonprofit or fund accounting background
  • Experience leading or supporting system implementations or conversions
  • Grant compliance and reporting knowledge
